Ivan Gubijan

Ivan Gubijan (14 June 1923 in Bjelovar – 4 January 2009 in Belgrade) was a Yugoslav athlete who competed for the former Yugoslavia in the hammer throw at the 1948 Summer Olympics. After WWII, he came to Belgrade and joined the "Partizan" athletic club.
In the 1948 Summer Olympics held in London, he won the silver medal in the hammer throw. He was the first thrower to compete using a new technique that included four turns before the release. This technique is still used today by most athletes.
